Privacy Policy
How Mapcraft handles your data — last updated 1 July 2026.
Effective 1 July 2026. This Privacy Policy explains what Mapcraft (the "App") does — and does not — do with your information. Mapcraft is built privacy-first: no account, no analytics, no ads, and your exploration stays on your device.
1. The short version. Mapcraft does not collect, transmit, or sell your personal data. There is no account and no login. Your revealed map, saved places, inventory, quests, check-ins, and settings are stored only on your device. We — the developer — cannot see any of it, because it never reaches us.
2. Location. Mapcraft uses your location only while you are using the App ("When In Use"), and only to do two things: centre the map on you, and reveal the fog-of-war chunks you walk through. Your location is processed on your device to update the map and your exploration progress. It is never sent to us and never stored on any server we control. You can deny or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services; the map and search still work, but the App can't reveal chunks around you.
3. What is stored on your device. All of the following live only on your iPhone, in the App's local storage, and are never uploaded to us: • Revealed map chunks and your exploration progress (XP, level, distance, biomes discovered). • Quests and achievements you have unlocked. • Saved places (your "Chest") and check-ins. • Resources you have collected and items you have crafted. • Your settings and preferences. Deleting the App permanently erases all of it. There is no cloud backup on our side and no way for us to recover it.
4. Maps, search, and directions (Apple). Mapcraft is built on Apple's MapKit. When you load the map, search for a place, or request directions, the query needed to fulfil that request (for example your search text or route endpoints) is sent to Apple to return the result — exactly as in Apple's own Maps app. Apple's handling of that data is governed by Apple's privacy policy and MapKit terms. Because Mapcraft has no account, these requests are not tied to your identity, and we neither receive nor store them.
5. What we do not collect. Mapcraft contains no analytics, no advertising, no third-party tracking SDKs, no advertising identifier, and no crash/telemetry reporting. We do not collect your name, email, contacts, photos, calendar, health data, microphone, or camera. Mapcraft does not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell or share personal data — because we do not collect it in the first place.
6. Children. Mapcraft is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. Because the App keeps no personal data on our servers, it does not knowingly collect information from children. Note that the App encourages real-world movement — please make sure younger explorers stay aware of their surroundings and are supervised outdoors as appropriate.
7. Your choices and control. You are always in control: • Turn the fog layer off in Settings for plain navigation. • Reset your exploration to clear revealed chunks and start the map hidden again. • Deny or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings. • Delete the App to erase everything stored on your device.
8. Security. Because your data stays on your device, it is protected by iOS's built-in security: app sandboxing and, when you set a passcode, device encryption. We hold no server-side copy to secure — or to lose.
9. Changes. If we update this Privacy Policy, we will change the effective date above and, for material changes, note it on this page.
